April 8, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Although it has only been a few days since the last letter from the District, it has been a busy few days. This update is being provided before the long weekend so that you can plan accordingly.
On Monday, April 6, 2020, the Branford Board of Education voted to allow the school calendar to be adjusted to reflect our transition to remote learning. There will be no BPS Flex Learning this Friday, April 10, 2020. However, spring break is canceled. The remaining 5 vacation days will be dispersed throughout the months of April and May, as determined by a calendar committee meeting this week. An updated school calendar will be released by the end of next week and available on the District’s website.
When we resume BPS Flex Learning after the coming long weekend, you can expect your child may have the opportunity to interact “live” with classmates and the teacher through Google Hangouts Meet, one of the apps within the District’s Google platform. Teachers who choose to use this tool will share information with students regarding Meet sessions through Google Classroom. Please review the District’s parent and student guidelines for video conferencing found in the Parent Flex Learning resources folder here and available on the District website.
As a reminder, Branford Public Schools is still serving free grab-and-go meals for children 18 and under. Meals are available at Branford High School from Monday to Friday. This includes service on April 10, 2020, as well as all of next week. Weekend meals are also available on Friday in the form of bagged breakfasts and lunches for Saturday and Sunday. Please bring reusable bags to pick up those meals.
Best wishes for your continued health and safety,
Hamlet M. Hernandez
Superintendent of Schools
