This summer, BPS will offer a variety of learning programs. The goal is to provide differentiated opportunities so that all students, rising K through 12, can engage in continuous learning that bridges the end of one school year to the start of the next one. At WIS, there will be three (3) options depending on your child’s participation and performance during the school year, including the closure period.

  • Level 1: Learning Enrichment (Math, ELA, and additional content areas)
  • Level 2: Learning Bridges (Math and World Language Gr. 8 going into 9)
  • Level 3: Intensive Learning (Math, ELA)

In addition to taking advantage of the resources and suggestions for BPS Learning Enrichment, your child may also participate in Learning Bridges or Intensive Learning, depending on their needs and performance. Below are the descriptions and details of each level.

Level 1: Learning Enrichment

Goal
  • The goal is to provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, follow their curiosity, and pursue their passions.
Intended Students
  • All WIS students
Student Independence Required
  • The student will work independently throughout the summer.

Level 2: Learning Bridges

Goal

  • The goal is to provide guided learning experiences in Math and Spanish designed to create a bridge from one grade level's content to the next by focusing on critical skills and concepts.
Intended Students While any student may choose to participate in this level, it is...
  • Recommended for Spanish students in grade 8 who want to reinforce learning in preparation for Spanish 2 at BHS
  • Recommend for all current students in grades 5 through grade 8 who want to reinforce their Math learning in preparation for the next level course
  • May be recommended by counselor to students who received an NR in Math or gr. 8 Spanish for third trimester
Student Independence Required
  • A World Language and/or a Math teacher will monitor student progress and provide support via weekly video conferencing that may include instruction, as well as scheduled office hours.
  • Teachers will provide weekly check-ins with students.
  • Teacher will create a Google Classroom where enrolled students will join

  • Content is provided in weekly segments that are posted and that kids can complete during the week on their own time.
How can my child participate?
  • Parents can call their child’s school counselor to opt in before July 6th or access this link Summer Bridge Form.
  • School counselors will make recommendations to families based on established criteria.

Level 3: Intensive

Goal
  • The goal is to provide targeted and differentiated instruction in math and ELA based on learning needs of individual students.
Intended Students
  • Students will be identified by the WIS content area teacher, administration, and guidance as needing individualized support throughout the summer.
Student Independence Required
  • Full live instruction daily with a mixture of student independent work time and teacher supported instruction.
Dates
  • July 6 through July 30, 2020
Content
  • A grade level ELA teacher will be available 4 days a week to engage in 1-1 or small-group Google Meets, based on students' needs to continue the study of literature and writing.
  • A grade level Math teacher will be available 4 days a week to engage in 1-1 or small-group Google Meets, based on students' needs to work toward mastery of prerequisite math skills of the upcoming grade level.
How can my child participate?
  • The WIS school counselor will notify you through an email if your child meets the criteria for intensive learning.
