Reopening Communication #5
Reopening Communication #5
Branford Public Schools
Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Dear parents and guardians:

As we continue our school reopening planning, the District prepared a brief presentation titled Branford Public Schools Reopening School 2020-2021. Viewing this short presentation may answer some of your questions and help you to formulate others to ask during tomorrow’s BOE-sponsored Reopening Town Hall.  We have also prepared the first set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).  The FAQs document focuses on the health and safety questions which were submitted via our reopening email.  Finally, the Temporary Option for Voluntary Remote Learning provides information for families contemplating the option to engage in voluntary remote learning. Please see the District's News section for more information.

As the first day of school nears, your child’s principal will provide additional information regarding school schedules, procedures and processes so you can plan for your child and family.  As a reminder, BPS will reopen in a hybrid model, with Monday/Tuesday being in-person days for the Blue Group and Thursday/Friday being in-person days for the Orange Group. To the extent possible, students in the same family will be in the same color group. Kindergarten students will attend school in person on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is an online learning day for all students. We acknowledge that the color group your child is assigned is a key piece of information, and to that end, we will inform you as soon as possible of that assignment.

We are excited about students returning to school and value your patience.  The safety of students and staff has been and will continue to be our top priority.  Between now and September 9, 2020, we encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of wearing a mask, social distancing and hand hygiene.   Reopening school in the middle of pandemic is monumental undertaking which can only be accomplished safely when we all work together.

Warm regards,

Hamlet M. Hernandez

Superintendent of Schools
