Director of Student Services
Charles joined the Branford Public Schools in 2010 as its Director of Student Services, following seven years of service with the New Haven Public Schools, where he served as Supervisor of Psychological Services. His career began as a district-level, then building-based, school psychologist in two local school districts before being named as an assistant principal at ACES. Charles received his undergraduate degree in experimental psychology from Albertus Magnus College, and his advanced degrees in school psychology and educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. His background, professional training, and diverse experiences inform his leadership and approach to teaching and learning. He understands that a collaborative, interdependent school environment where students remain at the center of everyone's thinking, is key to achieving success for all. Charles believes partnerships with parents and broader community stakeholders are essential to enriching the district and its perspectives. During his free time, he enjoys anything salt water-related, gardening, working out, playing with his three dogs, and spending time with his wife and children.
