Maria Clark, EdD.
John B. Sliney School Principal
Maria joined the Branford Public Schools as principal of John B. Sliney School in 2019, following 18 years of service with the New Haven Public Schools and Guilford Public Schools. Most recently, she was the Assistant Principal at Brennan-Rogers Magnet School in New Haven, where her responsibilities included supervision of the school’s PreK to Grade 3 campus along with instructional and curricular leadership for Grades PreK-8. Prior to her administrative experience, Maria served as a special education teacher, an elementary teacher, and an instructional coach. She received her B.A. in elementary education and an M.A. with a specialization in moderate special needs from Boston College. Maria earned her sixth-year degree from Southern Connecticut State University in the classroom teacher specialist program, and her doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies in 2011. As the principal of JBS, Maria’s overarching goal is to build strong relationships and work collaboratively towards the common goal of providing every child at JBS with a positive learning experience. During her free time, Maria enjoys spending time with her husband, Edmund and their two children, Anna and Joseph, taking long walks, reading to and with her children, teaching educational leadership graduate courses and creating lasting memories with her family and friends.
