Jim joined Branford Public Schools as the Mary R. Tisko Elementary School principal in 2010, following thirteen years in the Hamden and New Haven Public schools.  He began his career at Woodward Avenue School, where he taught 4th grade for five years before becoming an administrative intern at Sheridan Magnet School.  Following a position as assistant principal at Wilbur Cross High School, he was later named principal of Hamden Middle School.  Mr. O’Connor grew up in the Westville section of New Haven and attended the New Haven Public Schools and Fairfield College Preparatory High School.  He received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and a master’s degree with a specialization in elementary education from the University of New Haven.  In 1999 Jim earned his sixth-year degree in educational administration from Southern Connecticut State University.  Jim believes that our ultimate goal as educators is to develop lifelong learners who are capable and confident, contribute to their community, and succeed in changing our global society.  During his free time, Jim enjoys playing and watching many sports, coaching his children, and spending time with his wife Jessica, son Colby, and daughter Kelsey.
