Dear MTM Families:

With Mr. Goeler’s last day of December 23, 2022, approaching, please join me in thanking him for all he has done for the children and families of the MTM community. We appreciate his impact on the greater school community, and know it has been significant and widely felt by many.  Throughout his tenure at MTM, Mr. Goeler has worked with countless families and staff members to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment in which all children thrive.  His legacy will be one of caring for all children!

As with any transition, it comes with a degree of nervous excitement.  I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Sharon Weirsman will serve as the MTM interim principal through the remainder of the 2022 – 2023 school year. Sharon is a highly capable and experienced administrator, and I am confident she will provide the school with exceptional leadership during the transition.  Sharon served as the JBS interim principal in 2018, and was instrumental in keeping JBS on track as the District identified its next permanent principal for JBS.  We know that Sharon is able and ready to do this again for BPS and the MTM community.  Sharon is known for her steady and dependable leadership, and for developing relationships with the students, families, and the staff.

Mrs. Weirsman comes with a wealth of experiences in public education and higher education.  Prior to retiring in 2013, Sharon served as the Principal of Doolittle Elementary School in Cheshire, CT for 15 years.  Since her retirement, she has served as interim principal in Westbrook, Orange, and Branford, an executive coach to a newly hired principal, and as an adjunct supervisor to student teachers.

Sharon will ensure the entire school community is supported, and that MTM continues its exceptional work.  The PTA leadership and my office are working to identify a date in early December for a Meet and Greet for parents and staff, prior to Sharon taking the helm at MTM in January.  We are also planning for Sharon to spend three days at MTM, to meet the students, become familiar with staff, and to be oriented to the building.  Any time a school experiences a leader transition, families have questions.  I hope my communication answers many of yours.

 Warm regards,

 Hamlet M. Hernandez
