2024-2025 Pre-K Registration Information

  1. Branford Public Schools offers a one-time Pre-Kindergarten experience at all three elementary schools for eligible 4 & 5 year-olds.

  2. Pre-K registration opens Monday, February 5, 2024 and registration applications must be submitted BEFORE 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 20th 2024.

  3. Pre-K Age Requirements: 

  • A child needs to be four years of age before September 1, 2024.  

  1. There are currently  36 available seats for each elementary school Pre-K program.

    1. 18 seats AM session*   (8:55 AM - 11:25 AM) (½ day)

    2. 18 seats PM session*   (12:55 PM - 3:25 PM) (½ day)
      *please note that there is no nap time

  1. The District also offers a full day experience for a limited number of students, consisting of a Pre-K class and fee-based wraparound child care provided by our School Age Child Care (SACC) program. There are 20 available seats for this program and the cost is $550.00 per month.

  2. Transportation is provided between a student’s residence and school for all Pre-K students.
    Situations where a family requests drop-off or pick-up at a child care provider within their child’s districted area will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

  3. In addition to the BPS Online Registration Form, you must complete the PreK Placement Request Form, the Heath History Questionnaire and submit the Early Childhood Health Assessment Record (make sure the parent/guardian completes, signs and dates the first page) and return to the BPS Registrar, Susan Wallace at: swallace@branfordschools.org 

  4. At registration, parents/guardians will state a preference for one of the three options described in #4 and 5 above. Here is the link:
    Pre-K Placement Request Form . However, a stated preference is not a guarantee. When creating each session, the district weighs many factors, including but not limited to parent/guardian preference, to assure the best environment for all students. 

  5. If PreK registration exceeds the available seats, then all students registered prior to March 20th will be entered into a lottery to determine who is admitted into the program. A lottery is not typical, but may be used if necessary. If you submit your Pre-K registration after the March 20,2024 deadline, you will be contacted the registrar and enrolled on a first-come, first serve basis depending on the availability of open slots. Any student not able to enroll will be placed on the waitlist and families will be notified should a slot become available

  6. Pre-K enrollment confirmations will begin the last week of March.

  7. If available slots remain in any schools, students on waitlists from other schools will be offered those slots. In the event there is ore than one school with a waitlists, student from Title 1 schools will be given preference.

  8. The State of CT requires all students entering Pre-K to have completed and updated physical and immunization record within one year of the start of the firs day of school. For incoming Pre-K students, please complete and submit all three pages of the Early Childhood Health Assessment Record.

  9. Once Pre-K students are assigned to a classroom, principals and /or teachers will communicate with individual families about plans for orientation.

  10. Specific questions regarding elementary half-day Pre-K should be directed to the principal at your child’s districted elementary school. Questions regarding the full-day Pre-K experience should be directed to Lauren Skultety, Pre-K to 4 Curriculum Coordinator at lskultety@branfordschools.org.

Your Student is CLEARED to Start School  WHEN:

  • The online registration has been approved by the Branford Public Schools Registrar.

  • The nurses have reviewed and cleared the student health records. 

  • Transcripts from prior schools (transferring students only)  have been reviewed and a schedule has been created by the guidance department (Walsh Intermediate and Branford High School only).

  • A school staff member has contacted the parent/guardian with the student’s school start date.
