Dear Parents and Guardians,

This letter is to inform you about summer enrichment programs and resources available to support your child’s mastery and interest in social studies skills and content over the summer:

An incomplete list of museums worth visiting this summer:

-iCivics was founded by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor in 2009 to ensure that all Americans have the knowledge and will to participate in our unique experiment in self-government. Since then, iCivics has become the nation’s premier non-profit civic education provider of high-quality, non-partisan, engaging, and free resources to more than 7.6 million students annually, in all 50 states. That equates to the majority of our nation’s middle and high school students.

For summer break, iCivics has launched “iCivics Backyard Adventure," a collection of games, scavenger hunts, and activities that will help your child explore his/her community and ways that they can make an impact in it.

-Discovering Amistad, the organization which owns the replica Amistad schooner, will be offering free tours of the ship during their 2023 Voyage for Freedom.  Visit their website for locations and scheduling information. They also have a variety of summer programs planned including a summer leadership academy, as well as sails, concerts, and more.  Read more information here

-Our state is saturated with local and national history.
Here is a list of historical attractions from CTVisit.com you may wish to visit with your child.

Please be aware that some sites may promote creating an account. Please be advised that these sites can be used without creating an account. Students may not use their school email address to create accounts when visiting these summer resource sites. Creating an account and logging in may result in the collection of personally identifiable information such as a name and/or email address, etc. so parents and guardians must be advised of this as the district cannot guarantee student data privacy.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Social Studies teacher. Thank you and have a great summer!
