Dear Sliney Families,
As noted in the most recent communication from Superintendent Hernandez, our school district is committed to school safety. Here at Sliney, we are so fortunate to have an AMAZING group of teachers and staff that work together to create learning environments that are safe and supported. Please be assured that our Sliney staff will continue to follow safety protocols that we have in place, develop opportunities for all students to enjoy learning and grow together as a school family.
KUDOS to our 3rd and 4th Grade students for all their hard work, perseverance and grit over the course of the past two weeks during the Smarter Balanced Assessment administration. Thanks to our JBS PTA, we will celebrate their hard work at the end of this week with a special treat!
The end of the year is quickly approaching with many celebrations and activities. On Friday, June 10, 2022, we will be having TEAMWORK Day (formerly known as Field Day). In order for us to continue to follow our safety guidelines on TEAMWORK Day, we are asking that only parent volunteers attend this event. Each grade level is in need of 8-10 volunteers. Please make sure to check your email for a parent volunteer survey and sign-up information that will be shared with families this week. Thank you for your on-going support and cooperation. We look forward to celebrating this joyful time with our students that have worked so hard all year!

This month, we are learning about TEAMWORK! There are many ways to give your child opportunities to practice their teamwork skills at home. You might like to try:
- Board games
- Cooking
- Putting on a play, show or music concert with siblings, friends or other family members.
- Art projects such as making a large collage or mosaic, or construction projects like making a LEGO city.
- Helping each other with homework, reading or math: a great way for older children to support their younger siblings, while also developing vital skills such as communication and patience themselves.
- Active outdoor play such as football, basketball, building dens or obstacle courses, outdoor scavenger hunts and hiking
and party games like Scrabble, Charades, Jenga, etc… great for developing important social skills like taking turns, collaboration and compromise.
:challenge siblings to work together to follow a recipe and bake a cake or even cook dinner.
We would love to see how your family demonstrates "TEAMWORK" at home. Please send via email a picture of your family and a very brief explanation of what your family did together. Please email your pictures to slineyoffice@branfordschools.org by Wednesday, June 8th. We will put these pictures together and create Sliney Slideshow to share with all of you before the end of the school year.
Thank you for entrusting your children to our care everyday. It's amazing to see the academic progress of every student at Sliney since the beginning of the school year as well as how much our students truly enjoy learning. Thank you for all your support at home!
Enjoy the upcoming holiday and long weekend with your family and friends. Stay safe and be well. Remember at Sliney, "We Stand Tall! And Reach for the Stars!"
Sincerely,
Maria Clark
