Dear JBS Parents and Guardians,
Last week, our school community celebrated our return to school from the Winter Recess with a town meeting. This assembly focused on our school-wide behavior matrix and expectations. We reviewed all the different ways that we show kindness, courage and safety throughout the different parts of our school - such as in the cafeteria, school bus, recess, hallways, bathrooms, lockers and stairways. Thanks to our SEL Committee that is composed of staff members from every grade level and content areas, we presented a quick slideshow for all staff and students! We enjoyed our time reviewing these expectations and ended the assembly with a sing-a-long of a song entitled, "Reach for the Stars." We reminded students and staff that when we demonstrate kindness, courage and safety at school, our entire school community will continue to feel that "sense of belonging" and stay focused on learning.
School is closed on Monday, January 16, 2023 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. A HUGE thank you to all the families that were able to participate in our MLK Poster/Essay Contest this year. Please take a moment this weekend to honor Dr. King and remind your children of his contributions and ways that we can live out his legacy of peace and nonviolent protest.
Here's a quick message from our JBS Library:
Traveling Mural Project 2022/23
JBS students are sharing the message "We are all unique. Together, we make a masterpiece!" with others around the country with the beautiful mural! Inspired by the book, "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds, students created their own unique "dots" that illustrate their personalities. In this process, we have connected to nine other participating schools. Now that the mural is complete, we will be sharing our mural by cutting it into ten sections, keeping one section and trading the other nine with schools across the country! As other schools send us their sections, we will rebuild our mural to create a brand new one representative of all ten schools.
Click HERE to see where our mural is headed and keep on the lookout for our rebuilt mural in February.
