JBS Front Door

Dear John B. Sliney Families,

As we bid farewell to the winter season, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring, just around the corner! The month of March brings with it a sense of renewal and growth, both in nature and within our school community. This month, our focus at John B. Sliney is on fostering FRIENDSHIP.  We believe that nurturing strong friendships lays the foundation for a positive and supportive learning environment. Throughout March, our students will engage in various activities and discussions aimed at understanding and practicing the qualities of a good friend.

We have an exciting lineup of events and initiatives planned for our students this month. On March 15th we have a Cultural School-Wide Assembly called "Helping Drew" where we will explore the themes of empathy - a program focused on anti-bullying and the importance of kindness.  We encourage all students to wear green on March 15th as part of our Spirit Day, and to bring in $1 to support the Grade 4 end of year activities. Furthermore, mark your calendars for the PTA Science Fair Night on March 20th, 2024, where students will showcase their scientific inquiries and discoveries!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all families for your unwavering support during our recent February Kindness Challenge. Thanks to your generosity, we have collected close to 500 items to donate to our local food banks and homeless shelters. Your contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of those in need, and we are incredibly proud of the kindness demonstrated by our school community. This spirit of giving embodies the values we strive to instill in our students, and we are grateful for your ongoing partnership in fostering these essential qualities.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the families who have enthusiastically registered for our American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. Together, we have achieved an impressive fundraising total of $2,145.12! Through this program, our aim has been to not only raise funds but also to promote healthy habits among our students and families. Engaging in regular physical activity and adopting a heart-healthy diet are crucial aspects of overall wellness.  Thank you for your enthusiastic participation and dedication to promoting wellness in our school community!

Thank you once again for your continued support and collaboration between school and home. Together, we can nurture a safe, inclusive, and compassionate learning environment where every student feels valued and supported. Here's to a month filled with friendship, kindness, and meaningful connections.

Warm regards,

Maria Clark, Principal
