What's New in Your Schools?

Seed-To-Table -- Locally Grown, Farm Fresh

With the Fall harvest here in CT come many opportunities to feature our local farms. We’re celebrating with Seed to Table events in the cafes, where we’ll be engaging students with fresh recipes, delicious demos, and fun and informative nutrition education.  Seed to Table is a celebration of fresh, seasonal, and local foods with an exploration of how students and families can have fun growing their own vegetables and herbs.

We featured marinara sauce produced from Massaro Farm’s tomatoes at BHS; Crunch Time sampling of a local Apple, Carrots, and Beet Salad; and Sweet Potato Salad in the elementary schools.

Lisa Nugent at BHS was recognized for the fun and humor she brings to the team each day. “No matter the outside circumstances, Lisa manages to add a bit of levity to every day.” She also leads the kitchen’s Safety Team. A diversified skillset if there ever was one.

Our Café was upgraded with state-of-the-art serving stations for The Deli, Pizza, Create, and Grab & Go options.

The busy stations allow for quicker service while still offering all the popular items.
